The customer

BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. (BBA) uses BinMan for container monitoring. Additionally, BinMan supports BBA in planning empties deliveries by means of a dynamic shipping quantity calculation based on actual requirements data. To this end, the standard solution of the cloud-based container management system was tailored to the customer’s specific requirements profile.

Specification and structuring phase

Based on the specifications sheet provided by BBA, a detailed specifications sheet was drawn up by LOGSOL. In addition to the specifications sheet, additional optimisation approaches were also mapped by the LOGSOL product managers. In a joint workshop on site in China, the adjustments were coordinated and given final approval. The customer was focused on practice-orientated, punctual implementation of the adjustments.

Implementation phase

Some functions of the standard BinMan software were adapted to the requirements. However, the focus was on developing new functionalities.

Focuses in the software development:

  • Empties shipping cost calculation based on SAP production data
  • Expansion of the master data regarding material allocation, filling degrees and transportation time as basis of shipping cost calculation
  • New process for dealing with complaints
  • Customised inventory processing
  • Option for mapping container scrappings and repairs directly in the system
  • Providing the entire system in Chinese

Test phase

Provision of a QA test system
Automated, browser-based test runs
User-acceptance test under real working conditions

All software developments were tested extensively for full functionality/usability by the persons responsible for the project at BBA and at LOGSOL in the QA system provided and approved by the client. Moreover, additional solution approaches emerged, which were specified and, in the later course of the project, fully implemented by LOGSOL, in accordance with the standardised change-request process.

Introduction phase and go-live

The standardised project course enabled a smooth introduction with a punctual go-live of BinMan on site in China at BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. Taking the individual rights concept into account, the user accounts were activated punctually, accompanied by detailed user training sessions for the employees and suppliers in Chinese by the LOGSOL project team. The start-up of the system and 4-week start-up support were successfully accompanied by a LOGSOL expert on site in China.
