VON ARDENNE Referenz

„“COMPETENT AND FRIENDLY CONTACT PERSONS WITH GOOD TECHNICAL EXPERTISE. THE ADVISORS WERE ABLE TO GAIN A GOOD UNDERSTANDING OF THE INTERNAL PROCESSES AND ADVANCED THE DEVELOPMENT OF A RELIABLE DATABASE. WE WOULD BE PLEASED TO WORK WITH THEM AGAIN IN SIMILAR TASKS IN THE SUPPLY CHAIN / LOGISTICS FIELD.”

The customer

VON ARDENNE GmbH is a company of the metal-processing industry and manufactures vacuum coating systems with which functional layers can be applied to different materials, such as glass or film. These materials are used to produce items such as solar modules, architectural glass or smartphone displays.

The project

As part of the project, the existing logistics concept was to be reviewed and optimised. Objectives included optimising the storage and transportation links, reducing the logistical workload, developing a performance standard for personnel assessment and setting up further improvement measures. Particular attention was paid to optimising the material flows and to the staff requirements analysis for logistical processes.

Implementation

Based on the actual process mapping and using material flow movement data from a representative period, LOGSOL first analysed the material flows. In addition, the logistics processes, such as goods receipt and picking, were mapped and time-assessed using MTM (methods-time measurement). Based on this, a wastage analysis of the individual processes was performed and organisational measures derived for improvement. The optimised processes were also time-assessed by means of MTM and their potential was shown. Further, based on the material-flow analysis produced, alternative transportation concepts were examined and functional surfaces were dimensioned in the halls. The findings acquired from the process and material-flow analysis contributed to optimising the warehouse structure. Here, it was particularly recommended to convert the rack technology from a pallet rack to shelf storage for small parts (approximately 60% of the product range). The recommended action regarding the findings of the warehouse, material-flow and process analysis for implementation of the measures formed the conclusion of the project.

The results

Thanks to optimisation and standardisation of the processes, employees can be deployed more efficiently and their deployment can be planned in a more targeted manner and managed better. By converting the warehouse structure for small parts, 26% of handling costs can be saved and the technology requirements for putting goods into and taking goods out of storage are also reduced. In order to ensure continuous reporting in the area of logistics, LOGSOL developed a key-figure monitor tailored to the requirements of VON ARDENNE GmbH. This monitor ensures a transparent view of areas including storage, picking and warehouse capacity utilisation. Now that the project has been completed, VON ARDENNE GmbH will begin to coordinate on the implementation of the measures. In the detailed planning and tender of the individual measures, for example the shelf storage and the subsequent move planning, the support of LOGSOL as a reliable planning partner can be trusted in.
