BinMan® and Swiss Post continue success story
Almost two years after the launch of the “Swiss Post Container Management System” (GMSP) project, it is clear that the cooperation between Swiss Post and LOGSOL is on track for success.
In May 2024, the second project phase was completed, during which the BinMan® container management system was expanded to include approximately three quarters of all planned functions. The final step towards full implementation is now just ahead. The system is set to go live by the end of this year – and the path to achieving this is clearly mapped out.
Francesco Di Gennaro, General Project Manager GMSP at Swiss Post, emphasizes the momentum of the project: “In May, we successfully tested further online services and are now heading towards the nationwide roll-out. This should be completed by the end of March 2025.” The Goal: Up to 5,000 users will be able to make 150,000 bookings a day with BinMan® in future.
Agile working is the key to success
The progress of the project is mainly based on the flexibility with which LOGSOL and Swiss Post react to changes. With the Scrum methodology, the best solutions are continuously being worked on. “We would not have achieved this speed without Scrum,” explains Dr. Sten Morawietz, Project Manager at LOGSOL. This method makes it possible to design, develop, test and release new features in short cycles – so only functioning modules actually go live. Francesco Di Gennaro also emphasizes the benefits: “Scrum has helped us to maintain focus and move forward step by step.” Thanks to this approach, the system is already delivering stable results and the feedback from users is consistently positive.
Technical challenges mastered safely
The introduction of a complex system such as BinMan® requires careful planning in order to successfully overcome technical hurdles. One of the biggest challenges was ensuring smooth communication between the internally developed web front-end and the back-end systems in real time. “A failure would block the entire process,” says Dr. Morawietz. Therefore, particularly robust and reliable interfaces had to be developed. BinMan® acts as a central data hub that coordinates container movements, creates transport orders and processes all data in real time. “BinMan® is the heart of technical communication,” emphasizes Francesco Di Gennaro.
A partnership of equals
The success of the project is based on a close partnership characterized by openness and quick decisions, as Dr. Sten Morawietz adds: “If there were unforeseen challenges, we addressed them immediately.” Di Gennaro confirms: “We always communicated openly and worked out solutions together.” This transparent approach strengthened the trust between the partners and helped to quickly overcome any issues that arose.
Looking to the future
Although the project is complete with the upcoming roll-out, further functions are to be introduced gradually. “We have created a stable basis and are optimistic about the next steps,” says Di Gennaro. The future of the BinMan® system promises innovation and more improvements – the partnership between Swiss Post and LOGSOL will also be further intensified.
