Rollout BinMan® at Coop: Seamless transition and high user acceptance
The last issue of LOGzins365 already contained a comprehensive report on the project to introduce new container management software at the Swiss retail cooperative Coop.
After three years of intensive project work, BinMan® went live at Coop in September 2025.
Coop is part of everyday life in Switzerland – almost everyone is familiar with the supermarket with the red and orange logo. But there is much more behind the name: The Coop Group comprises numerous sales formats, an extensive wholesale business and its own production facilities.
During the first two years, the focus for LOGSOL’s software experts was on conception, requirements analysis, software design and implementation. In line with the agile principle, features were tested immediately with a selected group of users within Coop in order to validate the requirements in a practical manner and enable short-term adjustments.
The development phase was followed by a comprehensive testing period with key Coop users and external partners. The results were rigorously incorporated into further development and noticeably improved stability, performance and user-friendliness. Even before going live, the system was met with a high level of acceptance: “The smooth go-live of BinMan® has shown us that: With careful preparation, close cooperation and extensive testing, we have introduced a stable system that our employees have been able to use productively right from the start,” emphasises Jonathan Giger, IT Project Manager at Coop.
Data migration from the legacy system to BinMan® presented a particular challenge.
A detailed migration plan regulated the data transfer via export and import as well as the necessary and extensive master data cleansing in the legacy system. Multiple test runs ensured that everything ran smoothly on the day of the changeover.
The well-thought-out training concept ensured that users were optimally prepared: Key users were trained in person and passed on their knowledge using the train-the-trainer approach. In addition, all users have access to multilingual documentation and short instructional videos.
Right at the start of the project, the LOGSOL team agreed on the priorities and project goals together with Coop and defined them clearly. Coop placed great importance on quality and deliberately accepted a longer project period in order to be able to use a comprehensive, stable system upon launch. The software was seamlessly integrated into the existing IT landscape and offers real-time data exchange through interfaces to the ERP system and to external systems of major suppliers. Supplemented by single sign-on, users benefit from consistent and convenient access.
Project manager Robert Kunz from LOGSOL draws a positive conclusion: The extensive testing phase proved its worth, and the migration and transition went smoothly. Users were able to use the system safely and efficiently from day one. I would like to thank everyone for their excellent cooperation and great commitment, which made the success of this project possible.”
During the Hypercare phase, LOGSOL experts were in close contact with Coop users to clarify questions and quickly resolve minor issues.
LOGSOL is continuing to support Coop: Edge cases are being analysed, performance is continuously being monitored, and improvements are being implemented in the release cycle. “Our customers benefit from continuous efficiency improvements and stable system operation. For LOGSOL, a project does not end with the go-live – we provide our customers with long-term support. After all, only a customer who is satisfied in the long term is a real success,” emphasises Robert Kunz.
