On course for the future: Strategic realignment at VOLKSWAGEN GROUP Original Teile Logistik, Vertrieb & Services GmbH

“If you want to break new ground, you have to leave old paths.” This is exactly what VOLKSWAGEN GROUP Original Teile Logistik, Vertrieb & Services GmbH has dared to do together with LOGSOL – and have successfully mastered. The completion of the DNO project has opened a pioneering chapter in spare parts logistics.

The DNO project (“Digital Network Operations”) stood for the consistent digital and strategic further development of the OTLG logistics network. The aim was to critically review the existing location and supply structure, create transparency and develop a sustainable supply concept.

Change as an opportunity

Electromobility is becoming increasingly important and the market is undergoing rapid change. Against this background, it is crucial to critically review the existing logistics strategy. Based on this, a supply concept should be developed that increases efficiency, guarantees security of supply and remains sustainable in the long term.

LOGSOL provided support in two key roles:

  • Strategic logistics consulting: Development of concept studies and feasibility analyses, examination of various scenarios and development of sustainable solutions.
  • Project Management Office (PMO): Centralised control, transparent communication and consistent progress monitoring – a guarantee for successful implementation.

From scenario to decision

The focus was on three variants of the location structure – from retaining the seven distribution centres to reducing them to five. Based on sound data analyses, site evaluations and process optimisations, a solution was developed that is not only efficient in the short term, but also economical in the long term.

The closure of the central sales centre was an important organisational step in order to make optimum use of capacities and deploy resources in a more targeted manner.

Teamwork as a success factor

The PMO provided clarity and structure: from milestone plans and risk analyses to regular status reports. At the same time, valuable findings were documented to serve as ‘lessons learned’ for future transformation projects.

Hendrik Geissler, Head of Business Unit Mobility at LOGSOL, emphasises:

“The strength of a project lies in the collaboration of different teams – this project proves that partnership and a clear focus make the difference.”

The result: a more stable, efficient and scalable logistics structure that optimally positions VOLKSWAGEN GROUP Original Teile Logistik, Vertrieb & Services GmbH for the coming years.
